Canada Apologizes to Man After Deportation, Torture
The U.S. Keeps Him on Watch List

From the CNN story: "Canada's prime minister apologized to Maher Arar on Friday and announced the government would compensate him C$10.5 million (US$8.9 million) for its role in his deportation from the U.S. to Syria, where he was tortured while held in prison for nearly a year."

Canada basically provided U.S. authorities with information, but U.S. officials detained him at JFK airport, chained, shackled and interrogated him for 11 days and then sent him to Syria where he was tortured. There were no denials of the torture or this treatment in the story just justifications for keeping him on a watch list.
