My wife and I (Franky and Jim) stayed with Quent in August this year, and we are so very, very sad that he is gone. If you ever met Catherine, she is my sister in law.
We had such a great time, and never even a hint that such a thing could happen. Our love to all and best wishes for tomorrow. We shall be together somewhere thinking of him and you all.
On September 12, 2001, at a hastily-called mass meeting at the University of Texas facilitated by Bob Jensen as a community forum on the events of the previous day, you two were seated in front of me and a new friend, who was very upset. Y'all were so affectionate with each other that it calmed my shaken friend. "Awww!" my friend sighed and surrendered to your example.
Quent always made an effort to reach out to people, including me when I was new to political activism and timid. I will always remember that about him. That and the warming affection the two of you shared.
I am so sorry for what you must be going through, and I hope you come out of it stronger.

Carl, I hope you don't mind... Andrew referred me to your blog a while back, and I peek in every once in a while.
The last time I saw you, you were with Quent, downtown on Dec. 31st, 1999, in the last seconds before midnight, all smiles.
I'm so sorry...
Take care,
Dina
I remember Quent. He was a nice polite person. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend, Carl.
- Sincerely
Andrew V
